Why I am a Premillennialist | Dr. James M. Boice Makes Case for Premillennialism | Problems with Premillennialism

Dr. Robert G. Clouse (1999)
"Throughout the history of the church, the events described in Revelation 20 have been interpreted in different ways.  One group, the premillennialists, holds that Jesus will personally and physically return to earth and immediately establish the millennial kingdom.. The second coming will be preceded by a series of dramatic signs - wars, famines, and earthquakes, the preaching of the gospel to all nations, a a great spiritual apostasy culminating in the appearance of the Antichrist, and an intense persecution of the church.  Just when all seems to be lost, Christ will gloriously descend from the sky, smite his foes and place Satan under lock and key, and take charge of the world that is rightfully his." (The New Millennium Manual: A Once and Future Guide, p  46)

"The dominant force in prophetic teaching today is actually a variation of premillennialism.  Whereas the other strains of millennial thought all have deep roots in the history of the church, the dispensational variety is of recent origin.  It must be emphasized that all dispensationalists are premillennialists, but many premillennialists do not subscribe to the dispensationalist view of the future" (The New Millennium Manual: A Once and Future Guide, p  56)

Kenneth Kanzer (1987)
"Also known as historic premillennialism, this view predicts that christ will return in a single event after the period of intense persecution of the church known as the Tribulation.  Immediately after Christ returns, the Antichrist and his followers will be destroyed and Israel will repent and be saved.  The promised messianic kingdom (millennium) will be established for 1,000 years, after which the rest of the dead will be raised, the final judgment effected, and the new heaven and new Earth will begin.  According to this view, three things must happen before Christ returns: the gospel must be preached to all nations, the Antichrist will be revealed, adn the Great Tribulation will run its course.  (A variation of this view, midtribulational premillennialism, places the Rapture at some point during the Tribulation.)  The Rapture and the appearing of Christ will take place simultaneously, thus the church of that generation will be exposed to the final trial of the Antichrist.  Unlike dispensational premillennialism, this view does not teach two covenants (one fore the church and one for Israel).  As such, it regards Israel less sympathetically, and holds to a less futuristic view of Revelation 4-22." ("Our Future Hope: Eschatology and Its Role in the  Church," Christianity Today 31: 5-I)

C. H. Spurgeon:
"Thus does pre-millennialism become a protest against the doctrine of unbroken evolution of the Kingdom of God to absolute perfection on earth, apart from the miraculous intervention of Christ [i.e. postmillennialism]. And equally is it a protest against that vapid idealism which violates the perfect kingdom into a spiritual abstraction, apart from the regenesis of the earth [i.e. amillennialism]. It asserts that the literal is always the last and highest fulfillment of prophecy." (Spurgeon's End Times Words of Wisdom)

John F Walvoord (1977)
"Most premillenarians (Darby excepted) would agree that a new covenant has been provided for the church, but not the new covenant for Israel." (The Millennial Kingdom, p. 214)

Dwight Wilson (1991)
"According to a fascinating account in The Sunday School Times, Mussolini himself was interviewed by two Belgian premillenarians, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph C. Norton. Mussolini was asked: "Do you intend to reconstitute the Roman Empire?’" He answered, "One cannot revive a dead empire, nor recall it into being. We can only revive its spirit, and be governed by the same discipline." Mr. Norton began to speak to the Premier of the teaching of the Bible regarding the reforming of the Roman Empire, telling him it was predicted of God, and speaking of the alliance of northern nations that would likewise take place. Mussolini leaned back in his chair and listened fascinated, and asked, "Is that really described in the Bible? Where is it found?" (Armageddon Now, p. 120)
