Matthew 26:64 is NOT a "Preterist Time Indicator" Pointing to AD70 "In short, the usage of "Apo Arti" in Matthew 26:64 [Apo ("from" - Strongs 575) and Arti ("now on" - Strong's 737)] is highly suggestive of the themes that have been previously offered at this blog ; that is, a series of revelatory recognitions of the power and glory of Jesus Christ's dominance by friend and foe alike. Though the typically pret-friendly Weymouth translation would like to make Jesus say "later on, you will see.." this is not really honest. I would rather say that it was simply a mistake, but I find it impossible to believe that neither Richard Francis Weymouth ("If this belief ever obtains general acceptance the earlier date of the Apocalypse will also be regarded as fully established. For it will then be seen that the book describes beforehand events which took place in 70 A.D.") nor Earnest Hampden-Cook (co-editor and author of "The Christ Has Come") were aware of how important (ironically) a futurist spin on this passage is to uphold their Preterist assumptions. However, not only is there no sense of futurity in this very emphatic Greek phrase, but rather we see quite the opposite.

Antisemitism Doomsday Dementia | Futurism | Dispensationalism | Zionism | Christian Zionism According to many, the long standing "replacement theology" of historical Christianity is anti-Semitic (see below). Some say that an Anti-Semite is anyone opposed politically to a Zionist state... But there are a large number of Anti-Zionist Jews in the world. Any definition that considers these Jewish people guilty of "anti-Semitism" is not reasonable. This section is presented to help discern the line between political opposition and racial bias.

Anti-Judaism in
the Gospel of John (2001 PDF)
"The depiction of "the Jews" that arises in the Gospel of John is not a
favorable image. The Evangelist not only speaks frequently of "the
Jews" as a group that is in vehement opposition to Jesus, but he also treats
this group repeatedly as a large, monolithic, indistinguishable mass."
Handel's Messiah & The Destruction of Jerusalem
“Messiah” lovers may be surprised to learn
that the work was meant not for Christmas but for Lent, and that the
“Hallelujah” chorus was designed not to honor the birth or resurrection
of Jesus but to celebrate the destruction of Jerusalem and the Second
Temple in A.D. 70. For most Christians in Handel’s day, this horrible
event was construed as divine retribution on Judaism for its failure to
accept Jesus as God’s promised Messiah. // The
resurrected Jesus, sitting at the right hand of God, unleashed his anger
on the Jews by having the Roman armies lay waste to Jerusalem and its
temple in A.D. 70. // Central to Kidder and his like-minded readers is a
mode of interpretation called “typology,” which means
that events in the Old Testament point to events in
Christian history not only through explicit prophecy and
fulfillment but also through the more mysterious implied
spiritual anticipation of Christian “antitypes” in Old
Testament “types.”" -- At Scene 6 in Part 2 the
oratorio features passages from Psalm 2 of the Old Testament set as a
series of antagonistic movements that precede excerpts from the New
Testament’s Book of Revelation set as the triumphant “Hallelujah”
chorus: type and antitype, prophecy and fulfillment."
Replacement Theology, Truth or Antisemitism - "It is only fair to mention that from the days of Paul onward, there was considerable anti-Christian hostility from among the orthodox Jews because of the claims of Christianity. Because the rapidly growing Church was becoming a real threat to Judaism, fear and hatred of Christianity would not be surprising. It is quite possible that the Jews may have aided and even instigated the early Roman persecution of the Christians in the first few centuries." (the Covenant Predates Moses)
Israel's Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi mulls "The Passion" - "The chief Israeli rabbi for Sephardic Jews, Shlomo Amar, was not available for comment."

Albert Mohler on Newsweek's cover story - Crosswalk "Further, Meacham claims that "many scholars believe that the author of Matthew, which is the only Gospel to include the 'His blood be on us' line, was writing after the destruction of the Temple in [AD] 70 and inserted the words to help explain why such misery had come upon the people of Jerusalem. According to this argument, blood had already fallen on them and on their children." Here Meacham's subversion of the biblical text is most apparent. He projects the authorship of the Gospel of Matthew at least a generation after the crucifixion itself and attributes the shape and substance of the Gospel to an anonymous author's intention to push a political agenda and to explain the destruction of the Temple."
Who Really Killed Jesus? - Newsweek "And many scholars believe that the author of Matthew, which is the only Gospel to include the "His blood be on us" line, was writing after the destruction of the Temple in 70 and inserted the words to help explain why such misery had come upon the people of Jerusalem. According to this argument, blood had already fallen on them and on their children." - Newsweek
Anti-Semitism, A Practical Manual "Is everybody who criticizes Israel an anti-Semite? Absolutely not. Can a person be an anti-Zionist without being an anti-Semite? Absolutely yes."
Who is the true Zionist? - "Legend has it that Napoleon Bonaparte once passed by a synagogue in Paris and observed that men, women and children were sitting on the ground and crying. He was curious to find out what catastrophe had befallen them, and how he could help. He was astonished to learn that they were mourning the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem and the banishing of the Jewish people from their homeland."

"Tell me about Reconstructionist Judaism (definitely not Judaism at all I presume) and tell me about Reform Judaism (not Judaism at all I presume) and tell me about Conservative Judaism ( some Conservative Synagogues maybe and some may not be genuine Judaism I presume) and tell me about the many Orthodox sects of Judaism of which I know very little, from the Neturei Karta to the followers of Kahane to those who are immersed in the teachings of the Kaballah."

Address by Ariel Sharon - " One thousand, nine hundred and thirty-three years ago, on a hill not far from here, Roman soldiers burned the remains of our Temple, believing that by doing so they had put an end to the Jewish history and legacy. The historian Yosef Ben Matityahu at the time wrote that the destruction of Jerusalem was so widespread: so that one who passes over the place of the destruction, would not believe that there was in this place an inhabited city. However, their plan did not succeed." |

The Real Cause of Antisemitism - "According to Shahak, the Jewish elite always had a symbiotic relationship with the governing class. The Jews would "administer the oppression" of the masses. In return, the governing class would force Jews to obey their "leaders." Sometimes a pogrom would do the trick."

The Israelization of the United States - "In its new Crusade, United States stands at the head of a numerous "coalition of the willing," now including forty-five countries. But Israel is missing from this long list, even though a team of colonial administrators, handpicked by Paul Wolfowtz, has already arrived in Kuwait City to take over Baghdad. That is a trick no magician could imitate. The Israelization of United States is complete." (CounterPunch)
The New Anti-Semitism - "Since it is now a given in many circles that Israel is a threat to the world equal to North Korea, and that Ariel Sharon is a cross between Martin Bormann and Hendrik Verwoerd, you will find yourself accused of using the Holocaust to avoid any criticism of Israels behaviour. Because, well, you know, you Jews always stick together and are mighty quick to deal that persecution card. " (Spectator)
WashPost: Hidden Agenda "David Brooks of the Weekly Standard wails that attacks based on the Israel tie have put him through personal hell: 'Now I get a steady stream of anti-Semitic screeds in my e-mail, my voicemail and in my mailbox. . . . Solzhenitsyn book infuriates Russian Jews
| Discussion "In the book, "Two Hundred Years Together," Solzhenitsyn, 84, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1970 for being the first to expose the horrors of the Stalinist gulag [the chain of brutal Soviet prison camps where he was imprisoned], deals with one of the last taboos of the communist revolution: that Jews were as much perpetrators of the repression as its victims."

"Israel like Nazi Germany" row - "A Welsh politician was today accused of gross anti-Semitism after comparing Israel to Nazi Germany. An Answer to the Jews (210) "IT happened very recently a dispute was held between a Christian and a Jewish proselyte. Alternately with contentious cable they each spun out the day until evening. By the opposing din, moreover, of some partisans of the individuals, truth began to be overcast by a sort of cloud. It was therefore our pleasure that that which, owing to the confused noise of disputation, could be less fully elucidated point by point, should be more carefully looked into, and that the pen should determine, for reading purposes, the questions handled."

Ann Coulter "Incidentally, if a person makes an argument that is, in fact, racist, etc, shouldnt that fact be self-evident? Simply restating the argument ought to demonstrate the bigotry -- if bigotry it is -- without a big warning label screaming Racist! Sexist! or Anti-Semitic! A false argument should be refuted, not named. Thats the basic idea behind freedom of speech. Arguments by name-calling, rather than truth and light, can generally be presumed fraudulent.(Ann Coulter, Shut up, He Explained October 15, 1999) Zola Levitt Woodrow Kroll
Kuenen (1874) "we ourselves, as Christians, are so greatly indebted to Israel, we should yet desire to become acquainted with the origin and growth of a religion which has achieved so many conquests. It appears here, if anywhere, how unreasonable it would be to 'despise the day of small things' for here we are reminded of 'the grain of mustard seed, which indeed is the least of all seeds, but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.'"
