David S. Clark -The Message From Patmos: A Postmillennial Commentary on the Book of Revelation (1921) "This early twentieth-century Postmillennial commentary on the Book of Revelation, written by the father of theologian Gordon Clark, offers an easy-to-read alternative to the popular Pre-millennial/Dispensational views of the best-selling Scofield Reference Bible and a multitude of other dissertations on end-time prophecy that litter the shelves of Christian bookstores. What About Palestine? and the Salvation of the Jews
By T.H. Salmon
Author of "Why I Left the Futurist School"
According to our modern "Dispensational" interpretation, the Jews are expected to have full possession of Palestine for at least 1000 years after the 2nd coming of Christ.
Believing that such a view is unscriptural and dangerous teaching, we desire to draw attention to some Scriptures which plainly state that God has fulfilled all that He promised Abraham concerning the land of Palestine.
Here is the promise. "In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates" Gen. 15:18.
Now for the fulfillment. In Deut.1:7,8 Moses said to the children of Israel -- "Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in all the plains, in the hills, and in the valleys, and in the south and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river the river Euphrates. Behold I have set the land before you; go In and possess the land which the LORD swore unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them."
Also In chapter eleven, verse 24, "Every place, whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours; from the wilderness and Lebanon, from river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be."
After the death of Moses, the same promise was given to Joshua. "Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast."(Joshua 1:3,4).
Then shortly before Joshua died, he said --- "And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed It, and dwelt therein. . . There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass" [Josh. 21:43,45].
In the 9th chapter of Nehemiah we have the same statement. Verses 7 and 8, "Thou art the LORD the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees and gavest him the name of Abraham; and foundest his heart faithful before thee .... and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give It I say, to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou art righteous." And verse 24 says ---"So the children went in and possessed the land."
Now turn to Jeremiah, Chapter 32 verse 21 ... "And hast brought forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with great terror. And hast given them this land which thou didst swear to give to their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey; and they came in, and possessed it."
King David's "border" was "at the river Euphrates" (2nd Samuel 8:3). Solomon also "reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt... For he had dominion over all the region on this side of the river" (I Kings 4:21, 24).
In the face of all this, how can it be said that Genesis 15:18 has never been fulfilled? We believe that God certainly did fulfil all that He promised concerning the land, and that neither Revelation 20, nor any of the Old Testament prophets have one word to say about a thousand years reign in Palestine in a future "millennium." I am convinced that this "Millennium" doctrine is a very serious error that needs exposing.
For one thing, among many others, it is today helping to encourage and deceive Jewish people with a false hope of salvation. And unless I am greatly mistaken it will help to plunge them into a day of grief and desperate sorrow (Isaiah 17: 1 1).
It cannot be denied that the situation in Palestine now is very serious, and we may well ask "What ought Israel to do," (I Chron. 12:32).
There is but one Scriptural answer. They must call on the name of the Lord and be saved by grace before He comes, or they will surely perish with all who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
"IN THAT DAY" all the true and obedient followers of Christ will be "glorified" but all "who know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and the glory of his power." 2 Thess. 1:7-10.
How else can we understand these plain but solemn words in 2 Thess 1:7-10? We dare not ignore them nor try to explain them away with any false "dispensational" theory.
And what about Palestine? Surely no clearer answer can be found than this ---"The earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up," when the Lord comes suddenly as a thief In the night to "finish" the work of salvation, cut It short in righteousness, judge the world In righteousness, and bring In the new heavens and new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness (2 Peter 3:10,13, Romans 9:28; Acts 17:31).
The present attempt to build a permanent "Israel" again in Palestine appears to be a costly and beautiful house built upon sand instead of on Christ the Rock (Matthew 7:24-27).
Therefore it must fall when the coming storm beats upon it, for it is still true that "without me ye can do nothing" (John 15:5).
"On Christ the solid Rock we stand, All other ground is sinking sand."
"Therefore say I unto you, the Kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof..
"And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them." See Matthew 21:43, 45.
Compare Galatians 3:27-29 and Eph. 2:11-22 -- Here the Spiritual mind will perceive that the "Kingdom of God", i.e. the "Commonwealth of Israel" now consists of both Jews and Gentiles "AS ONE NEW MAN IN CHRIST JESUS" -- simply because the middle wall of partition between them was broken down by God forever in the sacrifice of Christ on the cross of Calvary.
"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! "Behold, your house Is left unto you desolate." (Matthew 23:37,38).
St. Paul said: -- "For the wrath Is come upon them to the uttermost." I Thess. 2:16 -- Compare Isaiah 5:3-7.
WHAT OUGHT ISRAEL TO DO
IS THERE YET ANY RELIABLE HOPE
FOR THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL
The Bible gives the most definite answer:-
Even as the Apostle Peter gave to the assembled people of Israel on the day of Pentecost when, after hearing Peter accuse them "of crucifying Jesus Christ their Messiah", they said unto Peter and the rest of the Apostles: - MEN AND BRETHREN WHAT SHALL WE DO? Acts 2:37.
And Peter said unto them repent ire and be baptized everyone of you In the name of Jesus Christ unto [for A.V.] the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
"For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto Him.
"And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, save yourselves from this crooked generation." Acts 2:38-40 R.V.
Here then Is the plain and reliable answer from God's Bible --- and the spiritually wise among the people of Israel WILL DO TODAY THE SAME AS DID 3,000 OF THEIR BRETHREN ON THAT GLORIOUS DAY OF PENTECOST IN THE YEAR 30A.D.
"They then that received his word were baptized: and there were added unto them In that day about three thousand souls.
"And they continued steadfastly In the Apostle's teaching and fellowship, In the breaking of bread and the prayers." Acts 2:41,42, R.V.
