Lasting Peace or the Second Coming?
Monday's Pro-Israel Rally Message in Perspective

By Bill Koenig
19 Apr 2002

It was a total pleasure being in Washington at Capitol Hill on Monday, April 15th for the Pro-Israel Rally in front of Capitol Hill. I was emotionally moved by the experience. As I got off the Metro Train at Union Station there were supporters of Israel arriving by Amtrak from many different places. There were Israeli flags everywhere.

The rally crowd was estimated at 110,000. The speakers were superb. The theme was to encourage the U.S. to stand with Israel in her battle against terrorism with the hopes it will lead to peace.

Christians, Janet Parshall, Congressmen Dick Armey, and former Secretary of Education William Bennett gave powerful pro-Israel messages.

Our Jewish brothers and sisters where sincerely moved and loudly applauded the Christians in attendance.

I also experienced the outpouring of appreciation as I spoke with people at the rally. I was asked to speak at two Jewish synagogues and asked to do two radio interviews. I have also been contacted by two Rabbis to help them get out the Israel message more effectively.

I also went to an event afterwards that is raising large funds to counter the anti-Israel secular media.

The irony to all of this is that the Jews are calling for lasting peace after terrorism has been dealt with.  The Christians know that according to their Bible that there will never be lasting peace. There will only be a short term peace of three and a half years according to Daniel 9:27.

Many Jews and Christians are calling for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalms 122:6), but the Jewish brothers and sisters expect lasting peace while the Christians know that the only time there will be a true and lasting peace in Jerusalem and Israel will be at Jesus Christ's Second Coming when He begins His 1,000 year reign in the New Jerusalem.

Nevertheless, our Jewish brothers and sisters will continue to be blessed by the love they are receiving from Christians. Moreover, they are experiencing a rapid increase in the outpouring of Jesus Christ's love which will continue to intensify proportionate to what takes place in Israel and to Jews around the world.

As John McTernan, co-author of our book , "Israel: The Blessing or the Curse" stated recently, "If you have the heart of God, you will have a heart for Israel and her people."

The Lord is doing some masterful work not only in Jewish people's lives but Christians too. All praise goes to Him!

Romans 11: 25-28

For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the father's sakes.

TOWARD TRADITION CALLS ON AMERICAN JEWS TO RECOGNIZE ISRAEL'S BEST FRIENDS: CHRISTIANS

Press Release Contact: Adam Fuller, 206-236-3046

SEATTLE, WA, APRIL 17, 2002 .... Toward Tradition today asked American Jews to consider the reason that American Christians have turned out to be the best friends the State of Israel has. Rabbi Daniel Lapin, Toward Tradition's president, commented: "I was deeply moved by Monday's rally for Israel in Washington, where Jews like Binyamin Netanyahu and Elie Wiesel stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Christians like Representative Dick Armey and activist Janet Parshall.

It is striking how, on the question of Israel's right to defend herself from terror, Christian America stands apart from lapsed-Christian Europe and the rest of the non-Christian world. Secular Europeans would have Israel passively allow herself to be torn to bloody shreds by suicide bombers. On this question there is hardly a difference between European and Arab opinion.

America's Christians, on the other hand, appreciate the Jewish state's position quite as well as Jews in America and Israel do and have passionately expressed their support to the President and Congress.

"What accounts for this disparity of sentiment? The answer is Genesis 1. Everyone knows the Five Books of Moses are concerned with defining the laws that govern Jewish life. Why then does the Torah begin by recounting the Creation of the world? Why not start like any other legal code, launching directly into a recitation of laws? The Midrash prophetically answers that this is to provide a response to critics who call the Jewish people 'thieves,' challenging their right to live in and govern the land of Israel. One message of Genesis 1 is that 'All the earth belongs to the Holy One, Blessed Be He. He created [Israel] and bestows it upon whoever he chooses.' So we see why Christians are so sympathetic to the Jewish side in this painful conflict: they revere the Bible. Muslims disdain the Bible and revere the Quran. Secularists disdain all Scripture.

"It may be attractive to think of Christians, Jews, and Muslims as forming one great 'Abrahamic' civilization, linking all believers in the One God. But the truth is that in the world today we are seeing two distinct religious civilizations in conflict: that of the Quran, allied with the believers in no God, violently challenging the civilization of the Bible, of Christianity and Judaism.

"For ten years, Toward Tradition has been calling on American Jews to recognize who our friends are. One could not think of a better time than the present to do so, and to express appropriate gratitude.

Toward Tradition is a national coalition of Jews and Christians advocating practical Torah solutions to modern American problems.
