DSS Theory Faces New Challenge

Ancient Biblical Scroll Discovered in Israel - "FOR THE first time since
the 1960s, the caves in the Judaean wilderness have yielded an ancient
biblical scroll.. The scroll consists of four fragments of goat or sheep
skin. One fragment, which is not much bigger than a silver dollar, is
indecipherable. The other three, ranging in size from 3.5 cm square to 7.5 x
6 cm, contain clearly discernable remnants of Leviticus 23:38-39, 40-44 and
24:16-18."

Dead Sea Scrolls reflect belief in coming messiah, eternal life "The
Essenes at Qumran rejected the dominant temple Judaism of the time that
Jesus was a part of, and isolated themselves in caves in the desert, many
scholars believe. Their writings reflect the end-times expectations of the
era, shared by Jesus' followers. "Jesus preaching that the Kingdom is at
hand is an apocalyptic vision," Meyer said.

"..the
name stands for the study of all ancient texts written on all sorts of
material - papyrus, parchment, vellum, leather, linen, slivers of wood,
wax tablets, potsherds (so-called ostraca) and so forth. Only
inscriptions on stone, marble, and similar material have brought forth
their own distinct discipline, epigraphy." Matthew D'Ancona (Eyewitness to Jesus, 24)

Eyewitness to Jesus:
Amazing New Manuscript Evidence About the Origin of the Gospels
(1996) "using the new science of papyrology,
had redated to roughly 60 CE three papyrus fragments of the Gospel of
Matthew, held in Oxford's Magdalen College Library since 1901.
the Magdalen Papyrus corroborates the tradition that St. Matthew actually wrote
the Gospel bearing his name, that he wrote it within a generation of Jesus'
death, and that the Gospel stories about Jesus are true. "
